I want every guide on this site to help your plants do well. Here are a few things to know before you start.

Personal experience, not professional advice

I’m a houseplant lover, not a botanist, a horticulturist or a veterinarian. Everything here comes from growing plants in my own apartment, and from reading reliable sources. The content is shared for general information and inspiration only.

Your results may vary

Light, temperature, humidity, water and soil differ from one home to the next, and from one season to another. A watering rhythm or a placement that works in my apartment may need adjusting in yours. Watch your plant, and trust what it shows you over any schedule.

If you find a mistake in a guide, please let me know through the Contact page. I correct errors as quickly as I can, and the “Updated” date at the top of the guide changes when I do.

Plants, pets and children

  • Many common houseplants are toxic to cats, dogs or people if chewed or eaten. The care card of each guide says what’s known, but check with the ASPCA toxic plant list or your veterinarian before bringing a plant home.
  • Keep toxic plants out of reach of pets and young children.
  • If a pet or a child may have eaten part of a plant, call your veterinarian, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center or Poison Control (1-800-222-1222 in the US) right away.
  • Some plants and their sap can irritate skin. Wear gloves when you prune or repot if your skin is sensitive.

Photos

Some photos on this site are styled or digitally created illustrations, meant to show the look of a plant or a room. Colors can look different on different screens, and real plants vary.

Some pages link to other websites. I’m not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices.

Some articles contain affiliate links, including links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. A commission never changes the price you pay or what a guide recommends. Articles with affiliate links say so at the top. See the Affiliate disclosure.

There are no ads on this site at the moment. If that changes, I’ll update this disclaimer and the Privacy Policy first.
